Easter is a very special holiday in Christendom because it   represents the resurrection of life.  That's what Joe Eriquez and Heart for   the City is striving for in the city of Glendale,   Arizona - a resurrection of life in that particular community.

"We used Spring Fest," Joe explained, "as   part of our ongoing attempt to create leaders in the 85301 zip code area   in Glendale, and to assist them in developing relationships with those   individuals who reside there.  This special event," he went on, "helped   us to reveal to those residents who the leaders that are rising up are."

To entice as many of the residents as possible to attend the   event, Joe and Heart for the City went all out.    They conducted an Easter Egg Hunt with over 11,500 eggs being hid;   provided cotton candy, hot dogs, water and various flavors of Gatorade;   and several Mariachi Bands.  To help entertain the kids there were a   variety of "blow up" activities, including the Sumo Wrestlers suits and   bouncy rooms.  One of the more somber activities was a depiction of the   Crucifixion featuring a gentleman "nailed" to a cross.

"It was very moving," Joe shared, "and all   who saw it were blessed."

The program was a success, as it allowed   people to make connections with others who are able to help improve   their condition in life.  The success, however, didn't come without a   cost.

"Had we not had   volunteers and a number of donations," Joe explained, "this could have   cost us well over $50,000.00."

Much of the   needed help came from the six churches that rallied and came along side   Joe and his staff to assist with this very special event. Far more than a   networking opportunity, Joe and his volunteers use these events as an   opportunity to evangelize to a hurting and needy section of the City of   Glendale.

Spring Fest was   not a one-time endeavor.  In fact, it is only of several that Joe hopes   to sponsor in the course of every year.  Right now he is planning an   event in September to coincide with the 100th Anniversary of   Mexican Revolution, an event that created a mass migration from Mexico   to Arizona and other border states.

"The individuals we hope to reach have a strong sense of pride   regarding their heritage," Joe explained, "and that knowledge provides   us with an opportunity to reach them at times you might not think   about."

As usual, Joe   and Heart for the City can't carry on   this outreach alone - - they need your help.  To find how you can donate   your money, time, or both click here.  If you won't be able to help in   September, but would like to participate in Spring Fest next year, click   here.  Whether you choose to help in either one or both, the reward you   will experience will be great indeed - - for, "as you do unto the least   of these, so do you unto me."
