There is, perhaps, no better-known zip code in all of America than 90210! This is, undoubtedly, because of the popular TV show with that name. However, while many of us know about the area and the fictional characters that populate it, do we know how it compares to one of the more depressed zip codes in Arizona, and perhaps the entire nation? Probably not. Let me share a few facts with you regarding the real life 90210 and 85301.
This information is enlightening to the point of sobering - perhaps even to the point of shocking. What we see here is one of the greatest disparities in U.S. communities possible. In basically the same size area, we find that 85301 has virtually three times as many people. The more sparsely populated 90201 has a cost of living index that's 2.3 times higher than its Arizona counterpart. The average salary is nearly ten times higher, while over 12 times as many registered sex offenders dwell in 85301 than 90210.

There's more that you should know about 85301. Fifty two percent of the households have an income below the poverty guidelines for a household of four - - the national average, let alone 90210's, is fourteen percent! The unemployment rate is 39% in 85301, for the whole country it is 9.7%. More than 300 single-family homes in 85301 were built in 1900 - - not since 1900, but in 1900! 85301 is a depressed area, leading the state in only one statistical area - -crime.

Of the 1976 people on probation in Glendale, nearly fifty percent live in 85301. According to the Glendale Police Department Gang Unit, there are five main street gangs in 85301, with over 400 gang members. What they need is for you to get involved in a prevention program on their behalf. What they need are activities that will keep them off the street and in some "safe " programs.
